Duncan Macmillan is an award-winning writer and director. His work has been performed throughout the world, including at the National Theatre, the Royal Court, Old Vic, Almeida, Barbican, St Ann’s Warehouse, Melbourne Theatre Company, Berliner Ensemble, Schaubühne Berlin, Hamburg Schauspielhaus, Burgtheater Wien, Vesturport, Kansallisteatteri, Nationaltheatret Oslo, at the Salzburg Festival, in the West End and on Broadway. His screen work has been shown at the London and Berlin film festivals, on the BBC, Netflix and HBO. Plays include People, Places and Things, Lungs; Every Brilliant Thing; Rosmersholm (adapt. Henrik Ibsen); 1984 (adapt. George Orwell, co-written and co-directed with Robert Icke); City of Glass (adapt. Paul Auster) and 2071 (co-written with Chris Rapley); The Forbidden Zone; Wunschloses Unglück (adapt. Peter Handke); and Reise durch die Nacht (adapt. Friederike Mayröcker), which was selected for Theatertreffen and Festival d’Avignon and awarded the Nestroy Preis for Best German Language Production. People, Places and Things, 1984 and Rosmersholm were all nominated for Olivier Awards.

Bunny Christie

Set Designer

Bunny Christie is a multi-award-winning production designer. She has worked extensively at the National Theatre and designed shows for all three of its theatres and devised many shows. She also initiated the National Theatre Design Bursary which supports two emerging designers each year. Her set and costume designs include The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time (awards include Olivier and Tony awards) at the National Theatre, in the West End and internationally; People, Places and Things at the National Theatre; the immersive production of Guys and Dolls and A Midsummer Night’s Dream at the Bridge; Company (Tony and Olivier awards for Best Design) on Broadway and in the West End; Ink (Tony nomination) in New York; all-women Shakespeare season at St Ann’s, New York. Work in opera includes the world premiere of Andre Previn’s Brief Encounter for Houston Grand Opera, where she also designed set and costumes for Tosca. Bunny Christie was awarded an OBE for services to the UK Theatre Industry and was given an Honorary Doctor of Letters from St Andrews University. She is a member of Scene Change, a Collective of Theatre Designers. Upcoming productions include London Tide at the National Theatre and a New York transfer of Tammy Faye.

Matthew Herbert

Matthew Herbert is an award-winning composer, artist, producer and writer whose work ranges from more than 30 albums (including Bodily Functions) to scores for Oscar-winning films (A Fantastic Woman), as well as music for the National Theatre, Broadway, TV series (Noughts and Crosses and The Responder for BBC), games (Lego) and radio. He has performed solo, as a DJ and with various musicians including his own 21-piece big band and 100-piece choir all round the world, from Sydney Opera House to the Hollywood Bowl and created installations, plays and opera. He has remixed artists such as Quincy Jones, Ennio Morricone, Serge Gainsbourg and Mahler and been a long-time collaborator of Bjork’s. He has had work commissioned by the Royal Opera House, the BBC and Deutsche Grammophon amongst many others. His work ONE PIG followed the life of a pig from birth to plate and beyond. His debut book The Music was published by Unbound in 2018 and he is the creative director of the New BBC Radiophonic Workshop. In 2021 a documentary by Enrique Sanchez Lansch about Herbert and listening entitled A Symphony of Noise was released. Shot over ten years, the film follows Herbert through 20 or so of his projects as an electronic musician, artist and sound activist. He also recently completed his PhD about the ethics of composing with sound and his next experimental project is based on hearing more than one billion sounds.
